| Irises in Le Bugue |
I wanted to continue on with my daily walking and exploring so decided to dig deeper into the villages nearby that I already know. |
| The walk up "cardiac hill" to our market |
I started off with my usual Saturday habit of hitting my local farmers market. I actually had a list this morning so my shopping was over quickly and I wandered a bit to see what was new. The new boulangerie was doing well - no baguettes left for me to grab so I did my part and succumbed to a couple of chocolate chip cookies. The Clement V hotel, bought a couple years ago by a lovely young couple from Paris finally had completed its snazzy renovations and was serving coffee and drinks in its new lobby.I walked back down the hill, deposited my morning purchases, and jumped in the car to hit Le Bugue. Le Bugue was devastated by COVID but is coming back. It's centered around the Vézère river and each time I walk around its streets, I discover new hidden corners. Today, I arrived in early afternoon - after its Saturday market which I didn't know it had.
I had the village to myself. I stopped for a sandwich I ended up regretting but otherwise it was incredibly relaxing to wander about. In many ways, the best time to go explore the shops is when they're closed. |
| A quiet stream winds through the church yard |
On my way back, I passed through the quiet village of Le Buisson. I decided to finally turn off the main road and take a look at l'Eglise by the river. It sits alone, after a short drive through plowed fields. I was moved by a small bench in the middle of a field - not a park, mind you, just a field. And the watery view from my car.
